Blakeney Red pears in SE London ?

Had some excellent home made perry at a party, from tree in their back garden, I  think it may be a Blakney Red tree.

Also visited another tree a few streets away , sadly most of the fruit had dropped bout will go back there next year to pick .

Thus more investigation required as the road is called Perry Rise, in a ward called Perry Vale all interesting as this is not West Country but SE london !

Trip to local History library to see what was there before the houses, could turn up something ....

John Baird pub in Muswell Hill Cider festival

I have been informed from the pub :

We'll be having a cider festival in mid-October with 12 different ciders and perrys on over the course of a few weeks, as well as a 30 barrel real ale festival starting on the 17th October. It would be great to have some more cider enthusiasts in as we had a great response to the range of ciders we stocked over the summer.

I have recieved this :

Press Release
July 2013

Enjoy The Glass Works Summer Cider Festival at the N1 Centre Islington

The summer has arrived and at the N1 Centre in Islington there’s a festival feeling in the air.  The Glass Works is hosting a truly scrumptious summer cider festival from 10th – 28th July.  Ideal for quenching a summer thirst, enjoy ciders brewed from apples, pears, plums and even strawberries from just £2.95.  With the opportunity to try up to 16 of the tastiest ciders from around the UK, there’s plenty to get excited about.

Enjoy the traditional flavours of the South West, home to the legendary Glastonbury Festival, with Sheppy’s Farmhouse Cider. Or why not try Glamorgan’s Fiery Fox, winner of the 2011 Welsh Cider & Perry Championship. For a more light and fruity taste, try Green Valley’s ‘Strawby Cider’, the perfect accompaniment to a summer afternoon.

On July 10th, come along and enjoy an introductory tasting event at the N1 Centre’s central piazza.  Pick your favourite from the wide range of ciders and perrys available.   Spice things up with Sanford Orchard’s Cider Ginger, brewed with whole root ginger and offering unbeatable citrus heat. Exclusive to the festival, try Mr Whitehead’s Plum Cider - plums give this unique cider a light maroon hue and a crisp finish.

Plus from mid-July, the N1 Centre’s central piazza is transformed into a summer lawned garden offering the perfect opportunity to pull up a deckchair and relax.

Vue Cinema Islington has some outstanding concert experiences to suit all tastes this summer.  From July 22nd, the heart-warming documentary ‘Springsteen and I’ includes Bruce ‘The Boss’ Springsteen's most loved songs with previously unseen performance footage. From August 29th,1D’s ‘Take Me Home’ Tour promises to show why 1D’s fans love them so much with great performances and backstage action.

The Glass Works and The N1 Centre has it covered with the summer cider festival – a great way to bring the taste of the country into the heart of Angel.

Alma Cider fest 3rd to 6th May

Popular Cider Festival in North London returns to provide over 20 premium varieties of cider and perry with DJs and live music during May bank holiday weekend.

Cider has a strong tradition in this country. English apples have been ground and pressed for the purpose of producing refreshing alcoholic beverages for centuries. The Alma, a gastro pub in North London, has started it's own tradition – a festival to celebrate our fascination with this popular drink.

For four years now, the 19th century public house in Newington Green has held Spring and Autumn Cider Festivals which provide premium selections from across England. This Spring, “bags in the box” filled with varieties from Somerset and Dorset will line the iconic front windows of The Alma from Friday May 3rd until Monday May 6th.

Culinary offerings to compliment your choice of beverage, live music from soul ensemble The Fae Simon Trio and DJ sets from Brighton reggae/dub producer Richie Phoe & New Zealand selector Pauly Who will create a true festival atmosphere for the long weekend.

Bromley CAMRA's one day only Mad March Cider Festival

A great success,here is an article/ press release :

Saturday (9th March) was a massive success with the festival having to close early as the 400 litres of real cider and perry were finished by 7.30pm. As soon as the doors opened at noon thirsty real cider fans and curious newcomers to the proper stuff came from far and wide and flocked into the HG Wells Centre, Bromley, to sample the thirty real ciders and perries on offer. The demand at the bar was constant and the hardworking bar staff didn't get any down time until the very last drop had been squeezed out of the boxes.

This was Bromley CAMRA's first cider and perry only festival, and as only a handful of pubs in the borough sell real cider, an attempt to introduce the people of Bromley to these fine drinks. Initially quite a few people were sceptical of the idea of a cider and perry only festival in Bromley and in March, what with many pub landlords saying 'Got a box of the stuff in once and nobody drank it' and 'cider's a summer drink', Bromley branch were even asked 'why they were even bothering?' Fortunately a core of Bromley branch members had faith and with the help of a good publicity campaign, sponsorship from one of the few pubs in the area that fly the flag for real cider and perry: The Grape & Grain in Crystal Palace, and backing from some cider producers themselves, the festival became a reality.

With the festival, Bromley CAMRA more than achieved their goal, the feedback from visitors to the festival has been nothing but positive, with new converts to real cider and perry and existing drinkers impressed by the good range of ciders on offer and just the general good vibe of the festival.

There's no stopping Bromley CAMRA now as on top of the branch's second beer and cider festival which is in planning at the moment, there are plans for a second real cider and perry only festival which will be even bigger and better! Watch this space.
